The sea a layer of silky fabric, a glimpse of sunlight poking through grey clouds, tranquility in the air… there’s something really peaceful about the beach in winter. Today, Dave and I decided to head just there for a wintery walk. Sunday Funday is becoming a bit of a tradition for us these days, and today was no exception. Bournemouth, where I’m from, is full of wonderful beaches, but the one we chose for our walk today is a really special one to me: it’s where my family and I lived years and years ago when we first moved to the UK. I remember how exciting it was, carrying our beach equipment along the winding road down to the seafront, laying our beach towels out, playing in the park overlooking the sea, having ice cream as a treat… so many memories flooded back when Dave and I returned today.
Alum Chine Beach is definitely one of the nicest beaches in Bournemouth. It’s really family- and dog-friendly so there are always cute kids and puppies running around, and it’s also very calm, especially compared to the hectic beach in the centre of Bournemouth. For some reason, Dave and I keep visiting places known for dog walkers lately. Last week, it was the dog-friendly pub in Lymington, and now this beach… I think we subconsciously need a puppy in our lives haha. Another thing that’s really lovely about Alum Chine is that there are some tropical gardens just in front of the beach that weave through the clifftop, with lovely views of the sea below. When Dave and I first got together, I knew this was the place that I had to take him to. It feels like a little secret garden tucked away behind the beach. My sister and I used to spend so much time there exploring and pretending that we were in a jungle haha.
We had a lovely afternoon, walking along the beach and exploring the tropical gardens. For a coffee break, we stopped by the cafe on the promenade and had our cappuccino and latte outside on the terrace, with an uninterrupted view of the sea. I really needed a calm, relaxing day like this after all of the stress that I’ve had with my blog, more of which I will explain when I finally know what is going on! Thank you for reading, lovelies. How have you spent one of the first Sundays of the New Year?
