say I love you with these cute Valentine’s Day gifts

With February 14th just around the corner, there’s no better way to say those three special words than with something small and thoughtful. To me, receiving a handmade gift is much more intimate than a card or present from a mainstream store, and I love supporting independent businesses. Therefore, I’ve decided to put together a gift guide featuring some cute Valentine’s Day gifts from small local companies that I thought you would all love. These items can either add a personal touch to your main present, or simply be the main gift itself, whether you are buying for your partner, friends, family or even for yourself!

Love Give Ink

Couple’s Foiled Keepsake Heart

As soon as I set eyes on this Couple’s Foiled Keepsake Heart, I knew that it would be perfect for this post! Handmade from clear acrylic with gold or silver foil, these little hearts can be personalised with names and a satin ribbon of your colour choice to create a romantic gift for your other half. I was so excited to open it when it arrived, beautifully packaged in a gift box with a ribbon wrapped around to give it that special feel. Martha, the lovely face behind Love Give Ink, also popped in a couple of extras in the form of these colourful print cards, which I absolutely love. I can’t wait to hang this little heart in my room!

Love Give Ink are a small London-based company focusing on printed gifts for all occasions, from anniversaries to birthdays and even Christenings. Everything created and sold by Love Give Ink is chic, thoughtful and beautifully presented. They are currently running a campaign known as ‘Our Love Story’ to celebrate their new Our Love Story Collection featuring beautiful gifts for anniversaries, weddings and, of course, Valentine’s Day. Use the hashtag #ourlovestoryhere with a photo of you and your other half for a chance to win £100 worth of Valentine’s treats.

Bee Good

Lip Balm Trio

As someone who cannot live without lip balm, I was delighted to receive not one but three wonderful tubes of this essential beauty product in a selection of flavours. The lip balms are made with a trio of oils – crambe, echium and borage – for that super moisturising effect.  To me, the Raspberry & White Chocolate one instantly reminds me of a delicious dessert following a romantic candlelit dinner, so it makes a perfectly appropriate gift for Valentine’s Day! The Vanilla & Honey and Lime Blossom & Honey ones sound equally yummy and complete a cute set that would make a lovely present for a friend or loved one.

Having been a fan of Burt’s Bees for a while, I was super excited to come across another natural skincare company to try. Bee Good is based in Hampshire, so it’s super local to me, and was started by Caroline and her beekeeper husband Simon with the intention of harnessing excess honey and beeswax to create natural skincare products.

Karen’s Krafts

How cute is this card?! When Karen showed me a selection of her cards, I was instantly drawn to this Bee Mine one. I am so impressed with the level of detail in this card, from the carefully cut out foam hearts and bumblebees to the embossed writing inside the card – everything about it feels luxurious, personal and handmade with care. The envelope even has a little bee on the back!

What’s even sweeter about this is that all of the items from Karen’s Krafts are handmade in a little craft room in the Rossendale Valley, which means that they are truly personal and made with love. If you’d like to order one of her lovely cards or pieces of jewellery then make sure to put your order in early since they are all made by Karen herself!

Hippo & Co.

Greeting Cards for Couples  |  All You Need Is Love Print

I have been completely spoilt by Hippo & Co. with this selection of their adorable pun-ny cards and this super romantic wall print! To me, there’s something so endearing about inanimate objects with faces so as soon as I saw the Cookies and Milk card, I knew it was perfect. Although you can’t tell in the photo, the All You Need Is Love print is actually A3-size so it’s perfect for popping in a frame and hanging up in the house. You can even personalise it with your names, along with a special date, to create a sentimental keepsake.

You have probably come across Stacey Michelle‘s lovely blog before, but I only very recently found out that she is also the co-founder of the online boutique, Hippo & Co., where she designs and makes beautiful cards, wall art and other cute goodies… aka the ultimate blogger job! Hippo & Co. specialise in creating ‘fun things for fun folk’, which already makes them sound like the perfect company to go to to add that special touch to any occasion. Their range of Valentine’s prints and cards is vast so you are sure to find something adorable for your date this year.

I hope this little gift guide has inspired you to pick up something thoughtful and handmade with love this Valentine’s Day, whether you are buying for someone special or just treating yourself. Also, I realise that there is an underlying theme of bees in this post haha – accidental but cute nonetheless!

What are your thoughts on small handmade gifts? Have you picked out anything for your Valentine this year yet?

Ah those cards are SO adorable!!! I agree with you, I love thoughtful homemade gifts more, it just more sentimental that way and the independent businesses definitely excel in that aspect. They just seem to have cuter more personable and customizable things to choose from. I love the glass heart with your names on there- I love anything that you can customize with names and dates. Andrew and I agreed that we were going to make something for each other for the holiday, and me being such a planner I already know what I was going to do but now I’m loving these little ideas you shared with us! I’m torn haha I might just have to have a foiled heart made regardless!

    xo, JJ

Hehe thank you! Exactly, and I feel like the big shops don’t need any more money but for small businesses it makes all the difference. That sounds like such a sweet idea! I can’t wait to see what you make (I’m hoping you’ll show us on the blog afterwards! Hehe) but yessss an extra little touch would be nice too! I’m sure deliver internationally 😊 xxxx

Millie, so well chosen! I always enjoy buying from small suppliers, especially the handcrafted. My boyfriend’s birthday is actually on Valentine’s Day! We love the quiet, small things. Quirky cards to boot. This year I’ve booked a night’s stay in one of his favourite towns – we’ll browse the vintage market and rifle through all the charity shops (our idea of heaven!)… There’s something about supporting locals and independents. This weekend I’m interviewing a friend who knits – most of her things are for charities though! I’m constantly telling her that she should set up a small Etsy. 😌 xxx
