A few weeks ago, Dave and I decided to continue our tradition of Sunday Funday in the form of an afternoon date at the beautiful Burley Manor in the New Forest. I remember when I first set eyes on its grand exterior at the Burley Village Fair over the summer, a beautiful manor house in the distance perfect for a special occasion like a wedding… I have a bit of a thing for anywhere that’s wedding venue-worthy it seems! I knew that it would be just the kind of place that I love. If you look closely, you might be able to spot some deer in one of the photos below, as there is actually a deer reserve just in front of the manor – you can’t get more New Forest than that!
Inside the plush and velvety bar area, we chose some comfy seats tucked away towards the back with a beautiful view overlooking the grounds of the hotel. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxed, just what to expect on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The wine list here is extensive, with plenty of traditional and New World choices, and very well priced. I was in the mood for something French so I opted for the Petit Papillon Grenache Blanc, which was just wonderful – quite light with delicate flavours of peach (my favourite!) and pineapple. It came in a 250ml carafe so it was perfect for a long afternoon of lounging around. To complement our drinks, Dave ordered one of the tapas options since he was feeling peckish (when is he not?) and this was delicious too. There are also lots of events on at the manor throughout the year, such as the flower arranging afternoon coming up in the summer, which sounds like the most blogger-worthy thing to do! I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for that closer to the time. We stayed until the sky turned an inky shade of blue and decided to move on to some other pubs in Burley, just a short walk away.
Burley Manor has quickly turned into our favourite place in the area thanks to its beautiful grand exterior, cosy decor and the fact that it’s very local to us. Dave and I are actually going there again tonight to celebrate our anniversary so I’m very excited to try the food properly! There’s nothing I love more than a lazy Sunday spent in the New Forest, and this is the perfect place just for that.
What’s your favourite way to spend a Sunday? Have you been to Burley Manor before?
